Biotechnology Patent Search: Stem Cell Patents
Hello Inventors:
I have stumbled upon a resource for biotechnology companies interested in stem cell research or stem cell patents. I found a FREE site for searching stem cell patents. The site is www.StemCellPatents.com. I've looked at it briefly but haven't used it yet in my patent searching.
As a biotechnology patent attorney, I often conduct patent searches. It can be difficult and time consuming to conduct a patent search for a biotechnology invention (which equals expensive). I often suggest start-up inventors begin a patent search themselves. That way they may save a few dollars and may be able to focus their invention on particular embodiments or I can follow up the patent search with a targeted supplemental patent search at a lesser rate.
A patent search can be useful to identify whether a prior patent or published patent publication discloses an invention. An inventor is not required to perform a patent search, but it is usually a pretty good idea.
Another reason to perform a patent search is to identify potential licensees (or licensors!). You never know. . . you just may find your next business partner!
Use a reputable patent attorney when hiring someone to conduct a patent search. If you are contracting with a non-attorney please be sure they sign a nondisclosure agreement and remember that the attorney-client privilege is between an attorney and his client! Not between a scientist and scientist.
Happy Inventing!
